Commissioned in 1758 by Louis XV, this palatial hotel on the place de la Concorde was the aristocratic home of the Crillon family until 1907. A listed building that sings of pedigree, it was recently acquired by the North American investment group Starwood Capital, which intends to launch a Crillon brand of luxury hotels across the world.
The Hôtel de Crillon will make a worthy flagship – almost a third of its 147 rooms are suites adorned with Aubusson carpets, Baccarat chandeliers and Louis XV-style furnishings. Along with the two-Michelin-star Les Ambassadeurs – which will offer a chef’s table from this month – the hotel also has the Sonia Rykiel-designed L’Obélisque restaurant and the snug red Crillon Bar – just the place to sink a coupe de Taittinger after a hard day’s shopping.
