Frommers’ Review:
This hotel made records as the largest in Paris when it was built in 1972. Rising nine stories above a rather dull residential and commercial neighborhood at the northwestern fringe of Paris, near the exposition halls at Porte Maillot, it’s the flagship of the Méridien chain. Rooms are contemporary looking, not overly large, and standardized, reflecting a bland but completely acceptable international style. Rooms on the hotel’s uppermost two floors are a bit plusher than rooms on the lower floors and have a more personalized approach, including a separate breakfast and bar/lounge, separate check-in facilities, and a separate concierge. Expect a lot of corporate bustle at this megahotel, a hard-working staff, and occasional touches of charm that help overcome the hotel’s sense of anonymity. Hint: The enormous size of this hotel, and the ongoing efforts of the sales and marketing staff to keep its occupancy levels high, lead to promotional rates that can be much as 50% less than the official quoted rates. Thanks to a business-oriented clientele, the demand is lower on weekends, so be sure to ask for discounts if you’re staying then.
